At UWS we strive to DREAM, BELIEVE and ACHIEVE. Our Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Centre is a great example of this. UWS were first in Scotland to invest in a dedicated KTP Manager 2017, followed by a KTP Centre in 2019, and have risen rapidly from outside the top-50 in the UK to #1 in Scotland and #1 in the UK by size of our total KTP portfolio and management KTP sub-set respectively; reaching a peak portfolio of 36 KTPs (valued at £7.5m) in 2021.
KTP is a strategic priority for UWS and aligns with the institution’s commitment to research impact, knowledge exchange and graduate development. Sitting within the wider Business Innovation Service, the UWS KTP Centre (currently 4FTE and expanding) has dedicated marketing, business development and post-award support functions. With a collective experience of 250KTPs / £40m secured funding, the UWS KTP Centre is now a recognised centre of excellence for KTP.
With ambitious targets for growth – set out in UWS’s 2025 Strategy – the newly created role of Business Development Officer (BDO) will report to the Senior KTP Manager and have shared responsibility for lead generation (internal and external promotion), partnership formation, KTP bid development, forecasting and reporting against KTP targets institution-wide. The post will involve working with academics across the institution (currently 4 schools) as well as colleagues in the wider Business Innovation Team spanning between KTP, CPD, Graduate Apprenticeships (GAs) and Incubation & Enterprise Services
B2B marketing, external stakeholder engagement (Innovate UK KTN, local / national business support organisations & sector bodies) and key account management (KAM) are all important elements of the role. Every KTP is viewed as a strategic business partnership at UWS and the BDO will be expected to signpost opportunities for wider engagement within the University (and with our external stakeholders).
