One Possible GTA 6 Marketing Method Would Be Comedy Gold

  • Grand Theft Auto 6 is highly anticipated and expected to have a monumental sales performance.
  • Rockstar could market GTA 6 in a cheaper and comedic way by teasing it directly within GTA Online.
  • A GTA 6 teaser in GTA Online could demonstrate the game’s humor while showing appreciation for the series’ dedicated fans.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is already one of the most anticipated video games of all time, and it hasn’t even been officially revealed yet. It seems safe to say that the hype surrounding GTA 6 is only going to continue to grow the more than fans actually get to see from the game, and with it already being such a highly anticipated game, it also seems safe to assume that GTA 6 is going to have quite the monumental commercial reception. But that doesn’t mean that Rockstar won’t market GTA 6 heavily in the lead-up to release.

Much like any other part of the entertainment industry, marketing a big release can be an extremely costly venture. Still, it’s usually worth it, as a good marketing push can end up bringing in an even greater audience. Being such a high-profile title already, Grand Theft Auto 6 will probably get a huge marketing push before its release. However, when it comes to GTA 6 there’s a much cheaper alternative for its marketing, and one that would be pure comedy gold for long-time fans.

Rockstar Should Finally Tease GTA 6 Inside of GTA Online

For years now, avid GTA fans have spent countless hours inspecting every last pixel of Grand Theft Auto Online, hoping that it yields some kind of tease about the release date for Grand Theft Auto 6. With every new update, patch, or content drop, a new set of rumors starts to appear, all of which claim that some new item, weapon, or vehicle actually holds the secret to GTA 6‘s release date.

There have been countless examples of this over the years, but one of the more popular recent theories occurred back in February of this year, when Rockstar added a Vice City Mambas livery to GTA Online. This livery, depicting Vice City’s football team mascot, also proudly puts the number 24 on the side of the car. With GTA 6 allegedly taking place in Vice City once again, many fans believed that this GTA Online car decal was teasing that GTA 6 would be getting a 2024 release date. One of the most recent apparent teasers happened back in June, when an in-game shirt titled “GTAV Anniversary” was added to GTA Online, bearing a peculiar design and mysterious writing. By using an A1Z26 deciphering tool, fans discovered that the mysterious writing read “one day will reveal all,” but it’s widely believed that this is teasing this year’s Halloween event – albeit extremely early.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming eventually, and the closer fans get to that inevitable reveal, the more convinced they are that the next GTA Online update is going to be the one that finally holds the elusive GTA 6 reveal. And while that hasn’t happened yet, and might not ever happen, it would be a stroke of comedic genius for Rockstar to actually do the thing and put a super secret tease for GTA 6 in the game.

The Grand Theft Auto series has always had a strong sense of humor, a lot of which revolves around tongue-in-cheek jabs at brands or fellow gaming franchises. Rockstar also isn’t afraid of poking fun at its own fan-base, and a GTA 6 teaser in GTA Online would certainly do that, but potentially in a funny yet genuine way. While the tease itself could be a tongue-in-cheek joke at the audience’s expense, it would also be a sign of understanding and maybe even gratitude, rewarding fans for all their passion and dedication over the last few years.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development.
